Cameroon’s protection response is shifting from direct humanitarian delivery to stronger national systems, but escalating violence and deep funding cuts risk undermining hard-won gains in documentation, inclusion and solutions. UNHCR is helping national institutions progressively assume core protection responsibilities, while maintaining essential safeguards and technical oversight. In parallel, support for forcibly displaced people is shifting from aid dependency towards greater inclusion in national systems and sustainable solutions. Worsening insecurity in the Far North and North-West/South-West is driving new internal displacement and serious protection risks, while funding cuts are shrinking response capacity. With most refugees in Cameroon living in protracted displacement, investment in documentation, inclusion and solutions is now urgent, strategic and cost-effective.
